Taco John's Potato Ole Seasoning | Copy Cat Recipe for their secret weapon on the tater tots

Taco John’s has fantastic Potato Ole’s, right! I mean, I don’t think anyone would disagree with that. I’m not even a huge fan of Taco John’s, and I love these things. If you don’t have a Taco John’s near you, I’m sorry – you are missing out.

My story goes like this: when I was in high school my friend and I would go up to town after play practice every week and go eat there. There was a girl in my class who worked there as well and she told me that each potato ole has 1 gram of fat. Ruined my whole day!

Now, obviously that didn’t stop me from consuming them, but definitely made me think about it before I put them in my mouth. Well all praise Pinterest. There is a post that runs around for the seasoning that they use for Potato Oles and I thought I had to give it a try to see what all the buzz is about. So, I have made this seasoning twice now, and it is pretty close to being a dead ringer for the original. Pretty darn good if I do say so myself. Now it is not “Spot on” but like I said, close. In my world close only counts in hand grenades and horse shoes…and now in copy-cat recipes….

    Ingredients:

    4 tsp Lawry’s Seasoning Salt
    2 tsp Paprika
    1 tsp Ground Cumin
    1 tsp Cayenne Pepper

    Directions

Mix all ingredients together and sprinkle over potato crowns or tater tots and bake per bag directions.

This makes quite a lot of seasoning, so put the spare in a Ziploc baggie to use at another time, or sprinkle it on some white fish before you fry it-pretty tasty!
